On his 13 birthday, Mississippi's ( Mibs ) brother Fish started a hurricane, but of course, that isn't unusual in the Beaumont family. They've been known to be able to do unimaginable things. Things like making land new land appear out of nowhere or having control over electricity or being perfect in every single way. These things or savvies as they call them come when a Beaumont turns 13. Mibs can't wait for her thirteenth birthday she hopes to get something amazing something to show her brother Rocket that girls can get awesome savvies too. But after her father is in a car crash Mibs's birthday plans are put on hold when her mother and older brother go to see her father in the hospital. Then ensues a wild adventure complete with talking tattoos, a Bible delivery man, and a pink bus.

Mibs Beaumont’s 13th birthday was not typical. It was when she got her savvy. What is a savvy, you might ask? It’s the special power or skill that everyone in Mibs’ family has. But what will Mibs’ be? Something useful, like levitation? Or something useLESS, like being able to make giant rubber band balls? That is uncertain. But when Mibs, her brothers, and 2 kids from church stowaway in the back of a pink bible-delivering bus to Salina, Kansas, to visit the Beaumont’s sick father, you can guess that Mibs’ birthday wasn’t exactly going to be normal anyway. :) I give this book 5/5 stars for imagination, comedy, and the inspiration that everyone has their own savvy, you just may not have found it yet.

I really like the last sentence, callie_b, of your book review on Savvy! It's perfect! --BKS

The book is pretty good. I love the romance in it. Well I like the romance in any book, but the writing is amazing. I think that if your looking for a fantasie/ romantic you should check this book out. Read the second and third in the series if you like the book. If I where you I would go to the library or something and check this book out right know.

The Beaumonts are a unique and unusual family. Each Beaumont, on their 13th birthday, get their inherited savvy. A savvy is a special ability like a superpower. All the savvy's are different, and can be anything. One of Mibs's brothers causes storms and another generates electricity, and neither is able to control his savvy too well yet. Now Mibs is about to turn thirteen, and they all wonder what her savvy will be. But just before her birthday, her father is in a car accident, and now lies in a coma in the hospital. And Mibs just hopes that whatever her savvy is, it will be something that can save him. I loved this book, it is such a unique concept, and Ingrid Law pulled it off beautifully. I kept wanting to turn the page and find out what was going to happen next. I especially liked that I got to feel what Mibs was feeling as she was trying to figure out her savvy and control it and as she goes on an adventure in the hopes of saving her father. I recommend it to middle grade students and older. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Ingrid Law makes amazing books (not that there's an author who doesn't) and has a wicked sense of humor. Reading her books makes me smile. The book Savvy is actually part of a series. **SPOILERS AHEAD*** This book in particular is about a family with abnormal powers who try to hide it from the world. Though, that can get a bit tricky at times ... very tricky. Having many siblings and relatives, keeping bad luck at bay was another challenge. Also having trouble fitting into a normal world with normal humans is not at all simple with a big family. I liked how Ingrid named some of the characters based on things in real life (like Fish, an adorable name for a mischievous child in a bookworms opinion). In the book Switch, there were a lot of climaxes and plot twists I never saw coming. That was the first book I read by Ingrid Law before reading Savvy. Having powers such as seeing into someone's life, being able to conjure fire, growing as big as a house makes a story all the more interesting and page turning. READ IT!! THIS IS AN ORDER!! Please ...... (or else)

Mississippi Beaumont (Mibs for short) is a girl whose family has a history of something called a savvy. This is basically a magical power. Mibs has not yet gained her Savvy. One day, her poppa is rushed to the hospital because of a car crash. Momma and Rocket go to see Poppa in Salina, Kansas. Fish, Gypsy, Samson, Will Junior, and Bobbi all climb onto a truck headed to Salina. Here, they meet the truck driver, Lester and Lil. Together, they all go on a wild ride in order to find Poppa. This book was good. There is a lot of mystery and suspense. Also, the author has written the book amazingly. This is great for fans of Walk Two Moons.

This book was a fun read! The Beaumont family is not the typical family. When somebody turns 13 years old, the person gets a special power (savvy). Mibs' brothers have the power to create electricity and start hurricanes, so Mibs is quite excited to find out what her power will be. Before she turns 13, however, Poppa gets into an accident, and Mibs wants a savvy that will be able to help him. But will she be able to help him? Read this exciting novel to find out! I recommend to readers of all ages that like mystery and fantasy books.

I think this was a great book! It is about this girl named Mississippi (Mibs) Beumont. Her family is special because they inherit these special powers called a savvy. When the person turns 13, their savvy gets activated. Right before Mibs 13th birthday, her dad gets into a terrible accident. Now the only savvy she wishes for is to wake up her father and heal him. Her mom sends someone else to take care of the children. Her name is Miss Rosemary. Since Miss Rosemary knows that she is sad, she sets up a birthday party. Mainly her family isn't suppose to do this to prevent harm so, this was very risky for her siblings and other people around her. Later during the party Will Junior gives her a pen set for her birthday. After that she faints. She is unconscious. When she wakes up, she hears many voices. Throughout the party she faints a lot. Her and Will Junior decide to sneak on a bus to get to the hospital that her dad is at. Someone else catches them and says that she has to come with them because if anything happens to them then she is responsible for them. So they all go on the bus. later the bus driver realizes that there are people on this bus. Now I feel like this next part is a plot twister. Instead of telling them to get out, he wants to get to know them and agrees to drive them where they need to go. Later he says that he needs to go a few places before driving them to the hospital. So he goes to the places he needs to go and goes through different things. Later, a person who boarded the bus after Will Junior and Mibs called the police. Then they have to tell them the whole story. After that, Will's dad agrees to drive them to the hospital. Then she discovers that her savvy is being able to read peoples minds. I felt that this was a great book. I liked that plot twister. I can relate this book to Zach King My Magical Life. In both books it talks about people having magical powers. It also talks about the characters struggles. I thought that this is an awesome book! Even thought it is not the best book it is still great. I would recommend this book to anyone!

This is an amazing story with a magical twist on reality. Firsthand told by teen Mibs Beaumont, Savvy is a book filled with teen issue and drama in the life of a 13-year-old. In Mibs' family, when you turn 13 your savvy is revealed to you. A savvy isn't exactly a superpower-it's more like a knack for doing things. For instance, Mibs' mom is perfect in every way. Even when she cries, it's perfect crying! Only on Mibs' special day, things get more out of hand then she ever could have dreamed-except the dream wouldn't be a dream, it would be a nightmare.

Savvy is about a family that when you turn thirteen you earn a savvy. And Mibs the main character turns thirteen and figures out her savvy..... somehow.
