Just read my review for Standing Up. It's the movie for this book. What I thought of it: Half of the time they referred to the 2 main characters as "the boy" and "the girl. That annoyed and confused me. The book was kind of racist, but it was written in the 80s so I wasn't very surprised. The writing style wasn't very good, and the author used a lot of metaphors I didn't get. I know this sounds crazy, but the movie was better. It seemed more meaningful, and it was more entertaining. It wasn't a bad book, though. Overall it was ok.
